A well was built in Juja Farm, 60 kilometers from Nairobi. Hope & Faith is a Rescue Centre for abandoned children with physical and/or mental disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy among other such conditions. It aims to rehabilitate the children so they can have some self-dependency. It is the only one of its kind in Kiambu County and was started by Mrs Marion Karimi in 2006. Kiambu has a population of approximately 2 million people. It currently has about 50 children, some of whom have been successfully incorporated into the regular or special school system The sanitation has been poor with no running water. The borehole will give them clean water for domestic use, sell the water to the local community and establish a kitchen garden. The management is also considering a fish farm.
We work with New Hope School, Pastor Edward, Daisy and local friends to provide food bags for 275 children in the slums of Soweto. Most of the kids eat one meal a day at the school and for the most part, that is their only meal for the day. Once a week, they give them a bag to take home. In the bag is a boiled egg, a banana or orange, a small carton or milk or yogurt, and porridge mix or bread. It only costs $1 to fill a bag.
